Michelin Guide USA held its latest ceremony in Colorado. Several new restaurants received stars, including Alma Fonda Fina from Denver. Serving Mexican cuisine Chef Johnny Curiel started off in his family’s restaurant in Guadalajara, and after years of high-end culinary experience, he revisits dishes and flavors from his upbringing with creativity and finely honed technique delivering results that are both satisfying and delicious.However, not all news was celebratory. In California, the Peninsula region saw two of its sushi restaurants lose their Michelin stars at the 2024 California Michelin Guide Ceremony. This event highlights the rigorous standards and the constant pressure for excellence that Michelin-starred restaurants must maintain.

Several Michelin-starred chefs have made headlines this week. Chef Lee Wolen, known for his work with the Boka Restaurant Group, is set to open a new restaurant inside the Vinoy hotel in St. Pete. The restaurant, named Elliott Aster, is expected to debut in early 2025 and promises to bring a unique dining experience to the area.

Chef Johnny Curiel, who owns Alma Fonda Fina and Cozobi Fonda Fina in Denver and Boulder, respectively, was awarded the Young Chef award by Michelin. This accolade recognizes his innovative approach and dedication to his craft, further solidifying his reputation in the culinary world

UK NEWS – Restaurant Award Season

The past week also saw the celebration of the National Restaurant Awards 2024, where the best eateries in the UK were recognized for their excellence. The Ledbury in Notting Hill was named the National Restaurant of the Year, a prestigious accolade that highlights its exceptional culinary offerings. The restaurant also earned its third Michelin star earlier this year, solidifying its status as a top dining destination.

In addition, the AA Hospitality Awards took place on September 23, 2024, celebrating the best in the hospitality industry. The event, held at JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London, honored various categories, including Best Restaurant, Best Hotel, and Chef of the Year Around 900 guests attended the event in the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Grand Ballroom which featured 16 award categories.

Awards including AA Restaurant of the Year, AA Hotel of the Year were announced. AA Chefs’ Chef of the Year was given to chef Tom Aikens. Restaurants of The Year awards went to The Greyhound, Buckinghamshire. The Silver Birch, London. Thomas by Tom Simmons, Cardiff and Loch bay Restaruant on Isle of Skye. New 5 Rosette awards were handed to Woven by Adam Smith (Coworth Park), Berkshire, The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant, Perth & Kinross and   Angel at Hetton, North Yorkshire

 

NEW UK RESTAURANT OPENINGS

 

Several new restaurants have opened their doors across the UK, bringing fresh culinary experiences to food enthusiasts. Notable openings include:

  1. Soul Mama in London, which offers a vibrant menu inspired by Asian street food.
  2. Willow in Telford, a cozy eatery focusing on sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients.
  3. Wildflowers in Mayfair, a high-end restaurant set within a church crypt, promising a unique dining atmosphere.

London continues to be a hotspot for new culinary ventures. Among the most talked-about new entries are The Barbary in Notting Hill, offering a Mediterranean-inspired menu, and Sesta, known for its contemporary European cuisine.
