TikTok ‘travel influencer’ Chloe Jade Meltzer criticises Two Michelin Starred Mugaritz restaurant in Spain’s Basque Country as the “worst meal” of her life.

In a video which has gone viral on social media and online newspapers ‘travel influencer’ Chloe Jade Meltzer criticises Two Michelin Starred Mugaritz restaurant in Spain’s Basque Country as the “worst meal” of her life.

Chloe Jade Meltzer describes herself as a digital creator and her job as World & Lux Travel blogger. Meltzer uploads videos to instagram Facebook and TikTok under the handle ChloeJadeTravels to try to get as many likes and views as possible. Meltzer said the meal was so bad she felt sick even remembering it, adding on TikTok: ‘The flavours were just bad, some of the produce was nice, but it seemed like this was almost a social experiment.’

Her full description of her Tik Tok video is “truly, a horror show …and also definitely a social experiment: MUGARITZ. this is a two Michelin star restaurant, but is an absolute joke and definitely they got those stars 20 years ago, and for some reason they been able to keep them…They give you a disclaimer at the beginning, saying that you will not like all of the dishes…and OK that’s fine…but for everything to be utterly disgusting doesn’t make any sense.” We are quite sure who she is to offer a public critique of any restaurant or chef.

Two Michelin-starred Mugaritz in Errenteria, Northern Spain is renowned for its creative menus under chef Head Chef Andoni Luis Aduriz. It offers a 25 course tasting menu. The Michelin Guide describes Mugaritz as ‘much more than a restaurant, offering food-enthusiasts a very different dining experience. Here, absolutely everything is questioned, hence the focus on both individual and general tastes to the extent that, in the words of the chef, “the experience is as much playful as it is gastronomic”.’  The intentions of Andoni Luis Aduriz, who likes nothing more than breaking the rules, can be seen in a small glossary placed on your table, detailing terms defined by the chef, his staff and even his customers in a cooperative endeavour to add meaning to the dining experience.

The restaurant was established In 1998 when Aduriz launched his first restaurant. It hass been recognised with 2 Michelin stars since 2006. Mugaritz has become synonymous with R+D and the word “restaurant” has ceased to exist.

It’s unknown if Meltzer has any culinary background to feel emboldened to publicly criticise a restaurants cooking. In interviews shed tried to explain that friends that ‘chefs that are friends had recommend this restaurant to her.’ At World of Chefs we aren’t quite show how her views have any credibility.

Meltzer has made four Tik Tok videos about this restaurant, ‘Part 1’, ‘Part 2’, ‘the restaurant tried to block my google review’ and a video about the restaurants response. The videos have a combined 10 million views.

Personally we believe Meltzer deserves the Marco Pierre White treatment for complaining customers ‘please leave’.
